REDNESDAY: At the thrift store!

Well, the computer crashed, and was down for a week. So now I'm back with lots of "things" to blog about! We headed up to Battle Creek, MN to visit my uncle, and there were lots of little (by little I mean teeny-tiny) towns along the way. We drove down the main street of one such town, and below is a pic of the sign I saw...

You can about imagine how fast I made my mom pull over the car!

The place was packed with people. And they were all carrying boxes of stuff out to their cars.  This was day two of their sale, I was told. And they wanted to sell everything in the store before they moved to their new location down the street. Oh I cringe at what I missed on day one!

I found a lot of cute books!

This is a 1942 copy of The Boxcar Children. I remember reading this in 5th grade. I think I'll read it again.

This page is from a beautiful book titled "Great Engravers". Every page is another antique, french engraving!

This is just amazing to me! That's PINOCCHIO in that white hat and red shorts! The cat and fox with their canes are so beautiful. It's by C.COLLODI, and is copyrited 1923. I looked it up on EBay, and found that it's worth quite a bit. But I'm so bummed about this book!  I realized that someone has removed every single bookplate except the one I've shown you here.  I wouldn't have sold it anyway. But I would have loved to see the pictures. I'm sure they were beautiful.

This is a washable, cloth, book by Whitman from 1972. Obviously I still need to get out the soap! Haaa! But isn't it so so cute? The page with the kittens in the fire truck might even be a little cuter! :)

OK...This last book is one of those finds that made me feel that I was destined to stumble across that sale.

The book is about a miniature long haired dachshund! And while they refer to the dog in the book as a boy, I can't tell you how much this dog looks like my little girl dog, Noel.

I haven't introduced Noel to my blogger friends yet, but I'm planning on getting her on here real soon.

Noel is a "Dapple, Long haired, Miniature, Dachshund"...just like this!

OK this last pic is totally weird! LOL But I had to show you the other odds and ends that I found at the 90% off sale. I bought 3 paper cones, 4 vintage spun cotton heads, 2 vintage gnomes, a really pretty antique lace runner, and a pretty book of postcards and poems. All things for my Etsy Shop!

My Grand Total before the discount: $48.43.......and after....$5.37!!!!!

I'd say that was a good day thrifting! :)

My Favorite Book: The Golden Egg

This BIG Golden Book is my absolute favorite children's book! I thought it would be appropriate to share with you today, with it's huge beautiful egg on the cover. The illustrations are so colorful, and I just love the book's woodland theme. It's lush background is full of black-eyed susan's, butterflies, pansies, bluebells, wild strawberries, and field mice. I actually named my blog after this book. That's how much I love it!

 "The Golden Egg" is about finding something magical and unexpected. Something you never knew you needed, but now you can't live without. And most of all the book reminds me of my sweet little Grandma, who gave this special book to us when we were real little. I hope you enjoy it too!

Vintage Thingie Thursday: It's The Little Thingies

On Tuesday I told myself that I wasn't going to "accumulate" anything for a few days. I made it through Wednesday. Haaaa! I met a friend for coffee this afternoon. And while driving home, totally minding my own business...there it was. "GARAGE SALE"! What was I suppose to do?? Just keep driving??

How much I said? Fifty cents for the box she said. Ummm...Yes, please!

I'm just showing you my little treasures from this sale. In another post I'll have to show you the REAL find!

Who could pass up 6 little periwinkle feather birds? Not I!

I arrived at this sale at 4:00PM, and she was packing up for the day. I cringe at what I must have missed.

6 little Silver Cups! I'm not huge on gold and silver, but wouldn't these be sweet next to each place setting at a dinner table? I can just see them with fresh greenery and some hyacinth in them!

So those were a few of my "Vintage Thingies" for today! And they were all acquired just a few hours ago!

Gifts from a Friend VIA an Easter Swap

I received the greatest package the other day! As a lot of you know, Sue over at Sue Loves Cherries hosted a Vintage Easter Swap this year. I was partnered with  Velma of Down Our County Road.First off let me say that Velma wasn't foolin around when she put this package together. The box was big and heavy!! So you can imagine how excited I was to open it!

Just look at all the cute things she sent! The Easter Basket is the prettiest shade of blue!

This Hen and Chick plate is my favorite! Velma picked out something that I would have bought for myself had I seen it. I just love it!

My very first PEZ dispenser, and it's a little yellow duck! So perfect for me! LOL

Oh...and did you see those cute Cupcake Liners?? Velma probably doesn't know this but I took a course in French Pastry Arts in NYC. I love to bake!

This antique Easter postcard is so pretty. I like that it's not chicks or bunnies. Velma framed it so beautifully, and I think she hand painted the frame too!

I'm going to put these paper-mache eggs in one of my big glass apothecary jars. I think I might leave them out year round even. They're just so natural looking. Love them! OK this bunny....I still have to talk to Velma about this, but I think she sewed the details on him! His little body and ears have the cutest grey fabric stitched on. And he's got a darling lace collar, and little beads in his ears. She also gave him that great big crinkly, cream-colored bow at his neck. He's just great.

REDNESDAY: Uncle Wiggily and The Peppermint

At the Thrift Store over the weekend I found two of the cutest little books ever!

Have a mentioned that I have a rabbit addiction? Combined with my love of vintage children's books, I about died when I found these...for .25 each!

Such cute illustrations! I've seen a couple "Uncle Wiggily" games and books before, but don't know anything about him. Do any of you collect U.W things? Know about the author or illustrator?
