Revalations and Vintagey Stuff!

Hi Bloggy Pals. I hope you've been doing well!

As for me, I've been doing a lot of "soul searching", and mental house cleaning. So that's why I've been absent from my blog. Of course I won't go into all that here. We will just get to the things I've found over the past few weeks. I hope you've been having fun at the sales too!

 The season is finally here!

 This guy was at an estate sale. I never buy stuffed animals but I just think he's so perfectly aged and sweet. I also love his hand stitched pants, and his velvety feet!

 

 I also found a few bits of x-mas, and a neat vintage Betty Crocker recipe booklet. The cover is great!

 

I find the neatest recipes in these booklets.

 

 One of my revelations has been that I can skip going to estate sales on the first days, and have just as much fun going the last day...when things are half off and there aren't tons of people.

This way I spend very little money, avoid the anxiety of trying to get a good number, and  still manage to find a few things to make me happy!

Proof : A 503 fridgie in wonderful condition. It was $7.00 on day 3!

 

 A little lamb that I dug out of the toy box.

 

And x-mas corsages pulled from the attic.

 

 OK- I went to the flea market last weekend and couldn't believe my luck! A 4.5 foot "Splendor" Aluminum Christmas Tree! So I asked the guy how much he wanted for it and he says (I kid you not)...$2.00! I gave him $5.00 and he looked at me like I was nuts. It's all there, and in perfect shape. So I don't get it. I guess he just thought it was junky.

The iron piece is marked 1903! I cleaned it up and hung it on the living room wall.

 

 I also found this adorable German duck candy container, a super cute doll quilt, and this Borax tin. The tin is a repro, but I don't care.

 

 This landscape painting seems quite old, and I just thought it was pretty. I'll use the Santa sucker mold to make clay ornaments I think. It was just a quarter.

 

 I love this tin!

 

 And lastly, I found two large children's books.

 

 The illustrations are magical!

 

 Pretty darn cute!

 

OK, that's all. I'm heading to the flea market again in the morning. The weather is supposed to be great. Here's hoping I find a few treasures!

Let's Go To An Estate Sale!

 Last Saturday I was able to go to my first estate sale of the year! I got up at 5:AM, and made it to Minneapolis by 6:30. The sale didn't start until 9:00, but I was still number 22! It's getting to be that you have to get to these sales at 3:00 in the morning to get a good number! Ridiculous!

 It was a very cold morning! But I had brought a big thermos of hot coffee, donuts, and a thick blanket. I was able to keep the car turned off for the most part, and only run the engine now and then to get some heat back in the car.

I "hunkered" down and watched the crazy people! Look at them stepping into the shrubs and peeking in.

 At 8:30 we got our "real" numbers. I lucked out because number 21 didn't show! I moved one ahead! At 9:00 they opened the doors and said "OK, we will take #1 through #20"!  Oh Nooooooo!

But I lucked out again and someone didn't show!

 So I got in with the first wave!

I'm sorry, many of these things were in my "Market Monday".

There were at least 100 of these dress pot holders! Each one different and totally cute. I should have grabbed more than 6, but I had to keep moving because this was a super competitive sale.

 This woman had been a doll and toy collector. And the basement was loaded with dolls of every kind. But there was a doll collector there that had gotten #1 in line, and she was hoarding everything!

The only dolls I grabbed were these little guys because I seriously just wanted to get out of her way!

There was a room with tons of fabric! And I found this cute vintage nursery print, and an aqua unfinished apron.

 These vintage sheets were $3 each! The flat and fitted were there, but when I got home I realized that I never looked for the pillow cases. Oh well.

I put them right into the wash! Aren't they sweet? And for $6!

 Then I came upon these pretty little egg cups for $1 each. I didn't have any, and I thought they'd be good for displaying my vintage Easter Eggs.

Then I found more Vintage Easter Eggs! Haa! Can you believe that's the second time that week that I found that egg with the duck couple on it? lol

These are teeny tiny. Like the potholders, there were also over a hundred of these glass hens at this sale. All different shapes and sizes!

 A vintage Ohio Art Co. tin dolly push cart....for $6!

 I know I should sell this, but I just can't! Let me just hold on to it for a few years at least! lol

And 5 vintage Beatrix Potter figurines...$3 each! Love love love!

Not bad for the first sale of the season I'd say.

Ok Friends, I wanted to let you know that there won't be a "Market Monday" next week or the one after that because I'll be moving! I also wanted to THANK YOU so much for making M.M so easy and fun!

I appreciate each sale so much! :)

And here are a couple sneak peaks of our new place. The current residents were still there when I took the pics, but at least you can see a bit.

 Mom says that the counter tops will be a pain to keep clean. But I don't care because I think they're cute! The stove is gas, and all the appliances are stainless steel...also hard to clean. oh well!

 This is just a space to fill with Pyrex cute things!

 My sister just got all new Fiesta dishes in the shades tangerine, lemongrass, sunflower and flamingo pink. Won't they look pretty in the glass cupboards?

Haa! They look NEON in this pic, but really they're more mellow.



 The ceiling in the kitchen is white bead-board too!

And this is the fireplace in the living room. It's wood burning, and the current residents said that they use it all the time!

I can't wait to get in and get it decorated!

Bunny For Sale and Some News!

 Believe me, I want to keep him!  I've looked at this one on EBay before, and I always assumed that he was small, like similar candy containers from his time. So I was surprised when I first saw him in person! He's 7 inches tall and 9 inches across!

 I didn't get a very good deal on him actually, so his starting bid is $45.

Other sellers have him at $75 and $155! What???

There are so many cute plastic bunnies on EBay if you search "Rosbro" or "Rosen" vintage candy containers! They are addicting...which is sorta why I'm hoping he won't sell and I can add him to my vintage Easter decor. lol jk

*** I wanted to let you all know about something new that I'm going to try!

Beginning THIS MONDAY I'm going to start what I will be referring to as

"Erica's Market Monday"

Each Monday I'll post things for sale that I have found over the weekend, directly on my blog. I'll keep prices as low as I can so that my blogger pals can scoop up a few fun things! I'm going to be hunting for supplies for your crafting, and little things for your vintage collections!

Here are the rules:

1. If you want to buy an item, reply and let me know what you want.
2. If someone before you has spoken for it, consider it SOLD
3. Make sure I have a way to contact you!
4. I accept PayPal, or we can make arrangements for a money order.
5. Wait to hear from me to confirm that the item is yours, and I'll also tell you how much shipping will be. Because I'm selling "smalls", shipping will often be 2-3 dollars. And I will of course combine items.

We'll see how this goes! I thought it might be fun to sell smaller vintage things, and also omit Etsy and EBay, so that I can sell things for less! So look for my post on "Market Monday" morning!

I HEART The 80's!

Having grown up in the 80's, I can't help but be drawn to toys of that era when I'm out hunting for vintage. I feel so lucky that I caught the tail end of what I feel was the age of innocence in toy making. After the 80's, toys started to take on a different appearance. Less sweet, more robotic in my opinion. I'm going to do a larger post on this sometime soon. I'll show you my collections...and then you'll think I'm crazy! lol

 Here's an original My Little Pony named Bow Tie from 1983.

When I found her, her mane and tail were a ratted, snarly, mess. You can usually restore them if you use hair conditioner, a fine comb, and a curling iron (on low heat).

She turned out beautifully!

I've collected several of the vintage ponies over the years, hoping that someday I'll have a little girl to play with them. This one is for SALE though, and she'll be in my shop. SOLD

She's "AS IS" due to some marks on her body.

 The toy from my childhood that I collect the most is Strawberry Shortcake. My sister and I loved playing with those sweet, scented dolls when we were little. I found this Raspberry Tart fabric panel at the thrift the other day. I'm very tempted to keep her, but I already have the Blueberry Muffin and SS Cake ones, which I would like to make into small quilts someday.

 See, she's marked 1981?

Did you know that nowadays they refer to her as Raspberry Torte instead of Tart because "Tart" was too racy? LOL Whatever!

Poochie was a little less well known, but so so sweet! I remember having a coloring book, and a stamp set.

I just love her hot pink ears and purple sunglasses. Again, I'm so tempted to keep this. But I have a few Poochie items now, so I better sell this. It was such a steal at the Goodwill the otherday!

And just in time for St. Patrick's Day, this vintage Care Bears mug was at my local thrift last week.

Estate Sale Finds!

Hi Friends! I hope you all had a great week!

A couple Saturday's ago I was able to get to an Estate Sale! The house was packed with every possible wonderful vintage thing you could think of! My sister and her boyfriend had never been to a sale, so I took them...rather they took me and my scooter since I can't drive yet! Anyway, we got there 2 hours before it started and got number 67!!!! WHAT? So crazy! I still managed to find a few of the things that I went there for. And here is what came home with me...

 If this guy didn't have so many chips he would be worth quite a bit. But he'll look cute displayed with my Pyrex I think. Hopefully I can paint over those chips!

Of course I couldn't pass up these darling vintage children's books!

 This Mother Goose one is the best!

There are little rips and tape on most of the pages, but that just means that it was a much loved book right?

I love his face!

And I added another Golden Book to my collection.

Sorry for the terrible pics! I'm trapped on the couch right now because I've been having lots of swelling and pain under my cast. Uhhg! But only 2.5 weeks to go!

I was thrilled to find this large paper mache Santa! And I had been looking for a cute little truck to make into an ornament. I'm going to strap a bottle brush tree in the back and dust it with mica snow!

I was worried that maybe the Santa was a repro or a newer version, but it's marked with the same name of the little girl that owned the book in 1926! Cool!

I've never owned any paper dolls, but these are sooo cute! You can put the bunny in the wash tub! LOL

Or a Bear on a Scooter! And look at that red checked skirt and aqua sweater!

A cherry embellished dress with matching clutch for a little sweetheart!

But someone is sleepy in their red robe with Minnie Mouse doll!

At the sale I also bought the shiny red PYREX bowl that was in my last post, and my sister's boyfriend (aka "the one" ) found me a really cute mint green colored chair in the basement.

OK Friends, I hope you enjoyed seeing my little purchases from the estate sale. I'm really craving digging into my art supplies and making some holiday things! As soon as the cast comes off you can expect more than just a single post per week. I can't wait to get busy!
