Well, I signed myself up for my first ever art challenge awhile back. And I have to say that once I realized the talent level of the other artists I was working with, I was sort of freaking out! The only clay sculpting I had done up until that point were small pieces that didn't need a supporting structure underneath.
The challenge was hosted by Patrick over at www.CreatingTheHive.com. I should have known what I was getting myself into just based on his talent alone! But anyway...here is what we were to do:
Choose a copyright free Easter postcard image. We were then to turn that image into our own 3-D sculpture. This could be with clay, fabric, more paper, metal...it was up to us. So that's the postcard that I chose above. I thought she was pretty cute with her two baskets full of eggs! OK...
Here's my version! Yes...she's much more "folk-arty" than the postcard girl is. But I learned a lot about my style of art. And I guess that's all I was trying to do in the first place. I just couldn't bring myself to paint her whiter, or to give her hair like the picture shows. I also decided to make her a candy container, because I collect antique ones, and just think they're neat.
You can see the beautiful work of all the participants in this challenge, and you can even VOTE on who you think represented their card the best! LOL Yep...can't say I even came close to doing that!
But it was so much fun!
You made the bunny girl? She's wonderful. Good job. Inspiration doesn't mean it has to match exactly.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind words! I just read your wonderful post on your MIL's locket. You're so lucky to have it as a reminder of her. It made me think of this beautiful turquoise pendant that my Grandma gave to me one day when we where going through her jewelry box. She passed away a few years ago, and now I wish I would have asked her where she got it. She was the best, most darling, little grandma a girl could ask for.
DeleteAnyway, thank you SO MUCH for taking a peek at my bunny girl, and for sharing such a beautiful story about your MIL's locket!
Erica :)
